I have always loved living in an area that truly experiences all four seasons. Being able to enjoy the season to the fullest and then ready for it to change! Living in Florida and Texas for many, many years, I missed experiencing all four seasons, we had two…HOT and HOTTER!

I have realized after living here in Ellijay for almost 8 years that Spring can be just as colorful as the fall. The Spring introduces so many shades of green, red and yellow as the trees emerge from their grey dormancy. Bushes and flowers bloom with brilliant red, white and pink flowers. Oh and don’t forget about the infamous YELLOW pollen that covers everything, now that’s a sight!

It’s been a long, cold, dreary, wet winter for us this year in the south! All of us at KZ Cabins are ready for Spring…especially last weekend with the warm sun shining down! Our kids are ready for longer days, no school, playing outside, hiking trips and family picnics!!

As we began our Spring Break and returning home from a family reunion last weekend, I passed this beautiful tulip garden outside of a retirement community. As I giggled with excitement, I pulled over, grabbed my camera and started taking pictures! My 3 daughters were laughing at me because I was acting as if I was one of them on Christmas morning.

I wanted to share with you some of my delight and blessings!! Now if tulips blooming is not a sign of Spring…I don’t know what else is!

What will General Beauregard Lee Predict? Early Spring or 6 more weeks of Winter?

Groundhog Day is a day celebrated on February 2, this year will be on a Saturday!!

According to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, then spring will come early; if it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will continue for six more weeks.

The largest Groundhog Day celebration is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, where crowds as large as 40,000 have gathered to celebrate the holiday since at least 1886

General Beauregard Lee

The closest Groundhog celebration to us is in Lilburn, Georgia. General Beauregard Lee is a groundhog that resides at the Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn, Georgia just outside of Atlanta. He has received honorary doctorates from the University of Georgia - “DWP, Doctor of Weather Prognostication” and Georgia State University - “Doctor of Southern Groundology.” He has been predicting early springs or late winters for many years and the Game Ranch claims a 94% accuracy rate. The past four years had been predicted for early spring. However, he did have one major miss: in 1993 he predicted an early Spring but Georgia was hit with a blizzard that crippled the Southeast for nearly a week and a half, sometimes called the “Storm of the Century”.
